Sunday began with Morris Catholic holding off a seasoned Hanover Park squad. The Hornets broke the relentless Morris Catholic press easily for almost all of the first half, but the Crusaders changed things up a bit with 3 minutes and increased a 2 point led to 24-19 half time advantage. Morris Catholic won its second straight MCT with a 52-38 victory. MVP Kathleen Schuckers led all scorers with 18. Let’s move from FDU-Florham to Mennen Arena for two great hockey games. Roxbury won the Haas Cup as the Gael broke a 1-1 tie with Park Regional en route to a 4-1 victory. Chris Sannipoli scored the eventual game winning goal for the Gaels, still undefeated at 21-0-1. Roxbury was led by four different goal scorers, as goal keeper Joe Streko stopped 18 out of 19 shots on net. Pequannock pulled the upset of the year in Morris County Hockey as the Golden Panthes, now 10-12-1, knocked off the, then, 19-1-2 Kinnleon Colts. Kinelon could not mount more than a one goal advantage as Steve Ondrof scored a power play goal to tie the game at 2 in the second period. The Panthers, who did not qualify for the state tournament who jump to a 3-2 lead when Steve Ondrof recorded the natural hat trick with just about 5 minutes left in the second period. Justin Lacorte added then insurance empty netter. Keeper Joe Fede was superman for the Panthers as the star goalie turned away 44 shots, and more importantly, limited the rebounds to near zero. On Monday, Randolph won the coveted Mennen Cup with a 4-1 victory over Moristown-Beard. Randolph, who controlled the pace of the entire game and rarely allowed Beard into the offensive zone, none-the-less, even set up their offense. John Beatrice, Chris Tamminga, Matt Fullam and Chris Maloney all scored for the Rams, now 13-4-5.
