BELMAR, N.J. (June 22, 2008, From Press Release) – Top seeds Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan won their first title of the 2008 AVP Crocs Tour season at this weekend’s AVP Crocs Tour Belmar presented by Bud Light with a hard fought three-set win over 2nd-seeds Carrie Dodd and Tatiana Minello. After dropping the first game in the final, Davis and Johnson Jordan bounced back to take down Dodd and Minello 15-21, 21-18, 15-10

“After the first game, we said ‘okay, let’s throw that one out and refocus,’” said Davis. “Then we started to get back into our rhythm.”

Earlier in the day, the top-ranked duo defeated sisters and 6th-seeds Katie Lindquist and Tracy Lindquist 21-13, 13-21, 15-9 in the semifinals to advance to today’s final, their fourth final this season. With this win, Davis and Johnson Jordan now have 10 career titles as a team.

“We felt we had to beat some really good teams to win this tournament,” said Johnson Jordan. “We feel good with the way we played and we came out with a win. Every tournament is different, every field is different, but this tournament we played really well.”

On the men’s side, top seeds Matt Olson and Kevin Wong defeated 3rd-seeds Nick Lucena and Sean Scott 22-20, 21-15 in the Belmar final to notch their first title as a team. The Belmar title is the first-ever for Olson and the 9th professional (6th AVP) title for Wong.

“This is a huge, huge weight off my shoulders,” said Olson about his career-first title win. “I’m so happy it happened this weekend. You know, there are few teams that aren’t here this week, but someone had to take advantage of that, and I’m glad it was us. I’m so happy right now – it still hasn’t hit me yet.”

The top-ranked duo took down 2nd-seeds John Hyden and Brad Keenan 21-19, 24-22 in the semifinal round on Sunday morning, having to battle their way into the final through the Contender’s Bracket in Belmar after dropping a match in the third round.

“I think the first win is huge, and it’s huge for me and Matt to break through as a team,” said Wong. “But the real momentum came from going from 13th, to ninth to seventh to third to first. Just climbing our way up – that’s where our momentum came from.”

After an action-packed weekend in Belmar, the AVP Crocs Tour next heads to Colorado for the AVP Crocs Slam Boulder presented by Bud Light, July 4-7. The AVP Crocs Slam Boulder and the three following events in Chicago, Long Beach and Brooklyn will all air live on NBC. Check your local listings for further details.
