Family Portrait
A vacation home can often serve as a wonderful backdrop for a family portrait by incorporating the natural beauty of the environment, which is often difficult to duplicate in a studio setting. When a family requests their portraits be taken “On Location,” we bring the benefits of the studio yet take advantage of their natural surroundings inside or out. Here is a great example of a family “environmental portrait” where we used the family’s lakefront home in combination with both studio and natural light to capture a unique moment in time.
From a technical perspective, the large group shot was taken at ISO 160 f/8, 1/100th of a second with a Canon 1Ds Mark III mounted on a Manfrotto tripod and lit with two Dynalite Uni400s mounted on light stands, bounced against silver lined umbrellas, powered by Jackrabbit batteries and triggered with PocketWizard MultiMax transceivers. The image was captured on a cloudy day early one morning.
