Westfield @ Kent Place Field Hockey

Summit, NJ - The last time these two schools met, the field hockey game was decided in double over time with Kent Place winning 3-2 at Kehler Stadium. While Kent Place once again defeated Westfield 3-2, it was no less exciting than their previous encounter and the ultimate outcome could not be predicted until the sound of the buzzer. #28 Alexa Biale, #25 Krissy Stewart and #12 Logan Shanney scored a point each for Kent Place. #6 Elaine Welch had an assist as did Krissy Stewart and Logan Shanney. Chelsea Wajswol had eight saves for Kent Place, while Emily Johnson had two. For Westfield, #11 Jenna Urban and #19 Julia Conroy each scored a goal, while Hannah Purdy had nine saves.

Also, it was Senior Day for the Kent Place Field Hockey Team who played their last home game.

Highlight Videos by Catherine Gordon

Summit, NJ - While we are out and about on the field taking snapping picures, we are often asked if we do video game highlights or recruiting videos. We generally refer everyone to Catherine Gordon at Net Edge Training. She does a great job and her prices are quite reasonable. Here is a video, she prepared for us.

The video was taken during the AL Johnson @ Kent Place Field Hockey varsity game held on September 20, 2007

Westfield vs. AL Johnson@ UCT Field Hockey

071006-3054.JPGSummit, NJ (Louis W. Rossi for NJSI/Photos by Alex Cena) - The Ladies of Cranford weren’t the only ones asserting themselves during the evening game series at Pat Conley Field in Summit this Saturday October 6, 2007. A.L. Johnson began their game around 5pm, coming out into what seemed to be a stalemate with Westfield H.S.

The tension finally broke when #29 Jamie Mytrowitz with 14:53 remaining in the first period. The one goal lead for A.L. Johnson held up the remaining 15 minutes; Mytrowitz’s goal would give her teammates the advantage heading into the second half.

Coming back from halftime, A.L. Johnson never looked back. Dominating Westfield’s defense and071006-3206.JPG scoring just over 2 minutes after coming back onto the field. #39 Courtney Maulen would score an unassisted goal off a corner shot to put A.L. Johnson up by two.

#7 Meghan Howlett would also score an unassisted corner shot goal at 23:56, just four minutes after Maulen’s, to give a comfortable lead of 3-0 for her team to lean on.

Westfield’s defense remained determined never giving up or conceding in the face of what seemed to be an almost inevitable outcome. But continuing the press into enemy territory was #47 Allison Nudo feeding her teammate #2 Jessica Rusin with 17:50 left to play, giving Johnson a four goal lead. But the ladies from A.L. Johnson weren’t done quite yet.

Finally sealing the deal was #51 Katie Grey. With just over ten minutes to play Grey scored the games third unassisted goal, allowing herself, and her teammates to relax and enjoy themselves – and their hearty lead as the clock ran out on Westfield.

Kent Place at Arthur L. Johnson Field Hockey

Clark, NJ - In a hard fought rematch between two fine teams, the Arthur L. Johnson Crusaders defeated the Kent Place Dragons 1-0 in girls high school varsity field hockey when ALJ’s #2 Jessica Rusin scored a goal with an assist from#23 Stephanie Lewis in double over time. Despite five shots on goal, the Dragons just could not get the ball past the Crusader’s Shannon Syciarz. A special kudos to the Dragons’ Chelsea Wajswol who had 10 saves during the game. Also, we pray for a speedy recovery for Kent Place’s #15 Caroline Kingsbery who was injured during the game.

A.L. Johnson @ Westfield Soccer

Westfield, NJ - The Westfield Blue Devils shutout the Crusaders of A.L. Johnson from Clark 4-0 at Kehler Stadium today. Special kudos to keeper Meg Brody of Westfield who protected the goal in place of an absent starting keeper Claire Bennett. Westfield scord within the first 12 minutes of play when #16 Tara Handza kicked in a goal. The score remained 1-0 until four minutes into the second period when #21 Hannah Wharam knocked one into the net. Fifteen minutes later #17 Corrine Parkinson threaded the ball past the outstretched right arm of ALJ’s keeper Brittany Murray. With almost 67 minutes of the game over, #16 Tara Handza used her head to knock in her second goal of the day. Westfield’s fifth an final goal was from #3 Becca Kape who scored with just over a minute left in the game.

A.L. Johnson @ Kent Place Field Hockey

Summit, NJ - Kent Place defeated AL Johnson 3-1 during a girls field hockey match held at Pat Conley Field in Summit, NJ. AL Johnson was the first to score during the first half when Meghan Howlett #7 shot a rocket past Chelsea Wajswol and into the goal. Despite numerous scoring opportunities, Kent Place just could not get on the board. We’re not sure what Coach Tracy Drummod told her team during halftime, but the Kent Place Dragons came back with a vengenace during the second half with two back two back goals by Logan Shanney #12 followed later by an Elaine Welch #6 goal.

Come back later when we’ll have some video highlights prepared by Catherine Gordon of Net Edge Training, LLC.
