Blair Academy @ Peddie – Football

November 10, 2007, Hightstown, NJ -The Peddie School was the host of the 104th meeting of the Peddie School and Blair Academy Football teams. The Peddie School and Blair Academy share New Jersey’s oldest continuous prep-football competition, dating back to 1903. Each November, the two schools square off in five sports and play for the coveted Potter-Kelley Cup.
The competition alternates each fall between the campuses of the two schools and showcases strong school pride and spirit. The Peddie Falcons dominated the athletic competitions for the Potter-Kelley Cup on Saturday, taking away 10 wins and three losses. Established in 1988, the Falcons now command a 13-4 advantage in the series. There have been three ties. Head of School John Green, in one of the great autumn rituals, received congratulations from Blair Headmaster T. Chandler Hardwick at the 50-yard line on Maurice P. Shuman Field and then raised the Cup surrounded by a frenzied sea of gold and blue partisans. On the gridiron, Peddie jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Blair roared back to score 42 unanswered points en route to a 42-17 win in the 104th meeting between the two storied football programs.
The Buccaneers hold a 51-48-5 advantage in New Jersey’s longest continuous prep school rivalry. “I want to thank everyone for their remarkable display of school spirit and for representing Peddie so well on Blair Day,” athletic director Geoff Harlan said. “Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on their competitive efforts and achievements throughout the day. Your performances across all of our fields keeps the Potter-Kelley in the Peddie community.”
