Taking the field at 12:30 for warm-ups, both teams were treated to a direct 90 degree sunbeam to add to the many factors accounting towards whom would eventually walk away champions.
The announcer could barely be heard over the crowd assembled in the stands. Everyone was rowdy with anticipation. (more…)

Sunday began with Morris Catholic holding off a seasoned Hanover Park squad. The Hornets broke the relentless Morris Catholic press easily for almost all of the first half, but the Crusaders changed things up a bit with 3 minutes and increased a 2 point led to 24-19 half time advantage. Morris Catholic won its second straight MCT with a 52-38 victory. MVP Kathleen Schuckers led all scorers with 18. Let’s move from FDU-Florham to Mennen Arena for two great hockey games. Roxbury won the Haas Cup as the Gael broke a 1-1 tie with Park Regional en route to a 4-1 victory. Chris Sannipoli scored the eventual game winning goal for the Gaels, still undefeated at 21-0-1. Roxbury was led by four different goal scorers, as goal keeper Joe Streko stopped 18 out of 19 shots on net. Pequannock pulled the upset of the year in Morris County Hockey as the Golden Panthes, now 10-12-1, knocked off the, then, 19-1-2 Kinnleon Colts. Kinelon could not mount more than a one goal advantage as Steve Ondrof scored a power play goal to tie the game at 2 in the second period. The Panthers, who did not qualify for the state tournament who jump to a 3-2 lead when Steve Ondrof recorded the natural hat trick with just about 5 minutes left in the second period.Justin Lacorte added then insurance empty netter. Keeper Joe Fede was superman for the Panthers as the star goalie turned away 44 shots, and more importantly, limited the rebounds to near zero. On Monday, Randolph won the coveted Mennen Cup with a 4-1 victory over Moristown-Beard. Randolph, who controlled the pace of the entire game and rarely allowed Beard into the offensive zone, none-the-less, even set up their offense. John Beatrice, Chris Tamminga, Matt Fullam and Chris Maloney all scored for the Rams, now 13-4-5.

A special shout out to Mountain Lake’s #14 Chris Glander, who was seriously injured during another ice hockey game. His entire team wishes him well. In fact, in honor of their team mate every player on the team wears Chris’ number on their helmets and hang Chris’ jersey above the team bench during every game.

The Coach does some terrific work. In fact, you may want to hire him to videotape your team’s athletic event. He’s even available for scouting videos. If your team’s coaching resources are stretched thin already, just have the coach videotape your upcoming opponent. No one is paying me to say this about the Coach. I just think he’s a real good videographer.
We congratulate Giulia Giordano of the Moorestown girls lacrosse team and . We wish Giulia all the best when she goes to the University of Pennsylvania in the fall and the Same for Brian who will be going to Penn State.

Morristown, NJ - In its March 2007 issue, Inside Lacrosse Magazine highlighted the April 25, 2007 Mountain Lakes @ Delbarton Boys High School Lacrosse match as one of its Games of the Year between big rivalries. These two teams meet up to three times each year. Once in the regular season and often times in the Morris County Championships and again at the State Finals held at Rutgers University.
In their first meeting of the year, the Green Wave, which is ranked number four in the nation, walked away with early bragging rights by outscoring the Lakers 7 – 1 in this game held under wet and rainy conditions on Delbarton’s home field in Morristown, NJ and attended by close to 800 screaming fans of both teams.
The Delbarton crowd was the first to celebrate as Matt Doherty scored an unassisted goal with 10:47 remaining in the first period. That was the last goal for the period as neither side was able to get past the opposite team’s defenders nor goaltender despite 8 shots on goal by Delbarton and 6 by Mountain Lakes.
Delbarton started strong and finished strong in the second period with Patrick Coleman scoring unassisted with 10:27 remaining. Mountain Lakes had plenty of opportunities to even the score during the period, outshooting the Green Wave 11 to six. Despite all those opportunities in the period, the Lakers were not able to get the ball past the Green Wave’s Goaltender Adam Tourgee. Then with only 1:09 remaining in the half Delbarton’s T.J. O’Donnell with a little help from Jack McBride found the net, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of Delbarton.
Mountain Lakes was down, but not out. In fact, the Lakers came back in the third period with 8:37 remaining with an unassisted goal by Brent Siebold erasing the possibility of a shutout. That was to be the last point of the day, however, for the Lakers. In fact, it had less than half as many chances to score in the third when the Lakers were limited to taking only five shots on goal compared to the 11 it took during the second period. Delbarton took eight shots on goal and one of those by Max Seligman with some help from Cam Seligman found the net with 6:42 remaining in the third period
Mountain Lakes had even fewer chances to place one in the net during the final period where Delbarton limited the Lakers to only three shots on goal, while the Green Wave took 10 shots converting three of those into goals by Chris McBride, Kyle O’Keefe and Matt Campbell with 7:02, 5:10 and 4:23 remaining, respectively.

Lacrosse continues to be the fastest growing sport in New Jersey. New programs are materializing throughout the Garden State eagerly gearing up for the 2007 season. Let’s take a look at the players and teams to watch:
Photos by Alex Cena and Eugene Parciasepe, Jr.
Attackman:
Jack McBride of Delbarton was an all-area, all-state, and all-American performer last year. Leading the way for the Green Wave with 57 goals, 28 assists, and 79 ground balls, McBride is poised for another outstanding season.
Matt Langan of Madison was awarded 1st team all-state and became the 3rd All-American in Madison lax history tallying 63 goals in his junior year
Mike Maydick of Seton Hall Prep received 1st team all-state honors in 2006.
Cory Zindel of Randolph was an all-stater in ’06 and has a scowling grimace to prove his intimidation worth
Defensemen:
Randolph’s John Lade was amongst the state’s and country’s top defensemen last year. His uncanny speed and quickness enabled him to grab over 200 loose balls in 2006.
Bobby Doyle led Lawrenceville to an undefeated 20-0 record last year that ended with a #10 in the nation ranking. The all-stater is back for his senior year.
Goalkeepers:
Brian Sampson of Mountain Lakes was selected 2nd team all-area as well as 2nd team all-state. The Lakers are riding on Sampson’s abilities for another successful season.
Kinnelon’s sophomore standout Andy Brown had a career year and won 2nd team all-area honors. Look for this junior to make big time improvements with another year under his belt.
Teams to Watch:
Delbarton remains the easy favorite in New Jersey. Amassing a 21-1 record and ascending to 6th in the nation last year, the Green Wave will ride McBride all season.
Madison returns all state defensemen Robert Novack, all state midfielder Bobby Caetta, and attack man Matt Langan. The Dodgers recently beat one of New York’s best in Sayville in a preview of what’s to come later this season.
Mountain Lakes will look to repeat as Group 1 state champions in 2007/ The Gibbs Division Champs will rely on goalie Sampson and a talented core of senior talent.
Chatham has a great year in 2006 with a 16-5 record, but a new goalkeeper and fatigue from their run in the basketball state championship could play a factor
Morristown Beard is a perennial powerhouse who was NJ Prep B state champions last year. How the team rebounds from some key losses to graduation will determine their worth. The Crimson will rely heavily on Tyler Bocchino, Keifer Weidmaier, and Sumer Moussa
