North Hunterdon vs Hunterdon Central-Volleyball Group Final

Wayne, NJ – In a very close game that could have gone either way down to the last serve, Hunterdon Central coached by Mandy Rodriguez, T. Lang and D. Macionis defeated North Hunterdon 25-19, 24-26, 25-3. During the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Girls Volleyball Tournament Group IV Finals held at William Patterson University’s Recreational Center in Wayne New Jersey. The Hunterdon Red Devils had a big day With #14 Amanda Ailes and #12 Kelly Edwards with 12 kills each. #6 Brittney Gajewski had 16 digs, while teammates #2 Stephanie Lavallato and #7 Shakeela Faulkner had 15 a piece. It was a team effortt, however: #5 Cara Tripp had one block, 4 digs, 5 kills and aced a serve; #20 Leanne DeRose had 7 digs and one kill; #4 Elizabeth Previte had 7 digs and aced 2 serves.

Jillian Prentice a Sophmore from Montgomery High School came out on top in a field of 95 runners competing with a time of 18:42.25 running at an average of 6:01.3 for each mile.

Gill St. Bernard’s Junior Doug Smith not only defeated a field of more than 100 competitors, but also established a new course record of 15:25.48 compared to 15:47 formerly set by another Gill St. Bernard’s Knight Bobby Papazian back in 2004. Doug Smith ran a 4:57.9 average mile.

Softball: North Hunterdon 8 (22-6), J.P. Stevens 0 (13-11)


 

 

Annandale, NJ - North Hunterdon, No. 19 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, defeated J.P. Stevens 8-0 to capture the NorthJersey, Section 2, Group 4 championship. Ali Freedman threw a one-hitter and retiredthe last 18 batters that stepped up to the plate. North Hunterdon’s scoring was sparked by Rebecca Schaefer who hada three-run homer and Molly Ward who had a two-run double. In addition, Hillary Murray and Colleen Trecartin each singled and scored twice for North Hunterdon. North Hunterdon will face No. 7 Clifton in the state semifinals on Tuesday June 5th.
